TRANSPORTATION CLUB OF HOUSTON LUNCHEONS

  • Does the Club make money on the luncheons?

Rarely.  The luncheons are priced at our approximate cost if you take advantage of the RSVP discount and make your guaranteed reservation on a timely basis.  Additional expenses such as comp meal for speaker and some others, audiovisual equipment etc mean we lose money on every luncheon without the help of our generous sponsors.

  • Why do we have to reserve by Friday when the luncheon is not until Tuesday?

This is required by most all restaurants.  They usually order food from a vender three days in advance.  Food ordered on short notice costs them more.  Therefore we must give the restaurant a guarantee which must be as accurate as possible.

  • What does “guaranteed reservation” mean?

Basically “take or pay”.  Making a reservation and not paying for it costs the club because we must pay the restaurant for your meal whether or not you attend.  You can always send someone else in your place or cancel your reservation before the Friday afternoon deadline to make sure you do not have to pay.

  • What time should I arrive?

Check in table usually opens by 11:00 am with most arriving between 11:15 and 11:30 for networking and mingling.  We usually get seated between 11:45 and 12:00.  We try to be finished by 1:00 pm to allow people to get back to work.

  • Is there always a speaker?

Almost always.  We consider education and providing information as one of our primary functions.

  • Don’t you think it would be nice to have the menu posted in advance?

Yes it would.  However, Brennan’s is an up-scale restaurant and, in order to keep it affordable, we defer to ‘chef’s choice” which is often not decided until the day of the meeting.  Typically, we have breast of chicken or filet of fish prepared in a variety of ways.  If you have special diet needs, you should specify at the time you make your reservation i.e. Vegetable Plate, Low Fat, Low Carb, No Fish etc. and your needs will be accommodated.
